Cinemasophia: Whole Ghosts

Netterweise haben mir Cinemasophia eine Promo ihres im November erscheinenden selbstverlegten Erstlings zur Rezension überlassen, und ich muß sagen, daß ich es zunächst nicht einfach fand, diese dann auch zu schreiben. Beim ersten Screening blieb nur wenig hängen, was allerdings an meinem Aufmerksamkeitspotential gelegen haben wird. Aber anstatt die CD beiseite zu legen, hörte ich sie mir nochmals an und mußte mir eingestehen, daß ich nicht hingehört hatte. Das ist ein richtiger Grower! Hier sind Leute am Werk, die es wirklich ernst mit guter Musik meinen. Da enstehen Songs mit Überraschungen und wunderschönen Momenten, die sich zum Teil erst bei genauen Hinhören der überwiegend längeren Songs offenbaren. Einzuorden ist die Band wirklich nur sehr schwer. Irgendwie Shogeaze-orientierter Indiefolkpostrock. Mischen wir Tortoise und Appleseed Cast, dann kommt ungefähr der Eindruck raus, den die Platte bei mir hinterlassen hat. So, und da ich so wenig über die Band weiß und mir nicht sicher war, ob ich totalen Scheiß schreibe, habe ich einfach Kontakt aufgenommen und als dessen Folge die Kunstform eines E-Mail Interviews hier in den Blog eingeführt (Premiere!). Also, lassen wir Landis Wine von Cinemasophia selbst zu Worte kommen:

TLPS: Do you like your music being compared with a late evening meeting of Tortoise with Appleseed Cast arranged by Grizzly Bear?
LW:Tortoise was one of the first (and most thrilling) shows that I saw during my High School years! We played with Grizzly Bear two Easters ago and it certainly helped shape the way I approached some of the sounds on "Whole Ghosts". I'm not very familiar with Appleseed Cast, but I certainly hope it's implied as a good thing! (Aber Hallo! Klar doch)

TLPS: Do you hate being compared with others?
LW:Luckily we've been able to avoid lots of comparisons with other bands because we try to diversify our sound quite a bit. We're always trying to move forward and craft things in a new way, so while we always have some influences that stand out, I'd like to think they're all sewn together very tightly. It's still a bit exciting when we're compared to bands I grew up loving (The Swirlies to name one), but that's certainly not what we're aiming for!

TLPS: With whom you would like to play on stage (not necessarely actual bands)?
LW:Well, between the six of us there are an awful lot of musicians that we would love to perform with. I think that the whole band can really rally around Battles. I would love to play with someone like Keith Fullteron Whitman (aka Hrvatski) or back up Damo Suzuki or something exciting like that. I'm honestly constantly excited by working with the musicians currently in the band and all that they have to offer. Each of us are multi-instrumentalists, which allows for a lot of expansive creativity that keeps us moving forward.
